PFAS in Southern NH: What You Need to Know
And how to get up to $10,000 in state rebates to fix it.

What Are PFAS?
PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are a group of man-made chemicals known as “forever chemicals” because they don't break down in the environment — or in the human body.
Southern New Hampshire has some of the highest concentrations in the country, largely due to the Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics plant in Merrimack, which released PFAS into local air and groundwater for decades.
In 2024, the EPA lowered the safe drinking water limit from 70 parts per trillion (ppt) to just 4 ppt — a 94% reduction. Many private wells in Merrimack, Bedford, Litchfield, Londonderry, Hudson, and Manchester far exceed this limit.
Health risks from chronic PFAS exposure include kidney and testicular cancer, thyroid disease, immune system disruption, and developmental issues in children.
Am I Affected?
The Saint-Gobain consent decree covers specific towns, but PFAS has migrated well beyond those boundaries. If you have a private well in southern NH, you may be affected regardless of your exact location.
Affected towns include (but are not limited to):
Even if your town isn't listed above — free PFAS testing is available. Don't assume your water is safe.

NH PFAS Rebate Program
The New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (NHDES) offers rebates to homeowners with private wells who test positive for PFAS contamination above the state action level. These rebates can cover a significant portion — or in some cases all — of the cost of a certified treatment system.
Up to $5,000
PFAS Treatment System
For installation of a whole-home PFAS treatment system (ion exchange or reverse osmosis).
Up to $10,000
Combined / Connection Rebate
For combined treatment systems or connection to public water supply.
We handle all rebate paperwork — at no extra charge.
Navigating the NHDES rebate application can be confusing. We've helped dozens of homeowners successfully claim their rebates. As part of every PFAS treatment installation, we complete and submit the full application on your behalf — no extra fees, no hassle.

How We Remove PFAS
Not all water treatment systems are effective against PFAS. We install only NSF/ANSI 58 or 61 certified systems that have been independently verified to reduce PFAS to below detectable levels. Ion exchange is our primary recommendation for whole-home treatment.
Ion Exchange (Recommended)
The gold standard for whole-home PFAS removal. Certified media with proven 99%+ removal rates for PFAS compounds.
Reverse Osmosis
Point-of-use RO systems provide excellent PFAS removal at the kitchen sink for drinking and cooking water.
How the Process Works
Free Water Test
We start with an on-site water test. If PFAS is suspected, we collect a sample for certified lab analysis ($150–$300).
Lab Results
Results in 5–7 business days. We review them with you and explain what the numbers mean for your family.
System Recommendation
We recommend a certified PFAS removal system sized for your water chemistry and flow rate.
Rebate Application
We handle the full NHDES rebate application at no extra cost. Up to $10,000 back in your pocket.
